Can You Go Through a Drive Thru on a Bike

When I was most agile in biking, around 2005-half-dozen, I would often utilize the drive-thru on a bicycle to choice up prescriptions, deposit our business'south daily earnings, or the occasional fast food repast. The main reason was convenience: I didn't have to lock upwardly my bike in the often-marginal neighborhoods that I rode in.

Unfortunately, beginning in 2006-vii, a disquieting tendency of banning cyclists from the drive-thrus began. The attendants claimed it was because of "liability" reasons. Off-white enough. What really angered me, though, was Walgreens, where I fill my prescriptions. None of their locations that I visited accept whatsoever place to lock up your bike! So I walked information technology through the shop. Ane worker even had the gall to tell me to get out the bike exterior (where there was no bike parking, not even incidental structures where yous could necktie up your bike).

Nowadays bicycle utilise on the road has exploded in Minnesota. It is common in almost all neighborhoods. The city has been part of this by designating bicycle lanes, only my guess is that the increase is also due to higher gas prices, increased promotion, concern for fitness, etc. The youth of the local 'hood even ride shiny bikes.

With the popularity of the bicycle as a means of transportation increasing, would information technology non exist too much to inquire for American towns and cities to begin requiring places with, say, more than one bulldoze-thru lane or a certain $$$ in annual revenue to likewise accommodate bicycles with a special lane designed for cyclists (and perhaps pedestrians)? They tin can require setbacks, minimum parking spaces, etc.; why couldn't they practise this?

Wouldn't it make more sense to require that if you had a drive thru window information technology could not be closed to bikes? Adding a lane for a very pocket-size group makes piddling sense and the safety issue is style overblown.
In Colorado I have never been told not to use the bulldoze upwardly window with my bike, it is quite common.

Too here a business tin can reduce their required parking spaces past providing lockable wheel parking.

I would rather just entrance hall the local government to push for more bike racks. Believe it or not, bike racks concenter people on bikes. It helps the local businesses out a lot.

I'd rather not go through a bulldoze-thru on my bike. If it is fitted correctly, trying to stand up while on the saddle is quite difficult. I'd prefer to just become off the bicycle.

We have a pretty cool program where people can just asking a bike rack. There is a web form and you just make full it out with the name of the business yous think needs a wheel rack!

I take filled it out twice and got a condition annotation dorsum from the city in a few days about my requests (they were pending). The city puts in racks on the sidewalk for gratis in front of the business organization if there is sufficient space (and requests).

I've never tried going to a drive-thru for fast food on a cycle, that would be interesting to endeavor. However, I take washed it on horseback. I take ridden my cycle through the bulldoze-thru at Chase Bank frequently. The only comment I would become from the tellers was that they envious and wish that they could be out riding a bike right now, equally well.

Try walking through the drive-thrus. See what they say.

Or get a cycle that looks similar a motorcar with iv wheels and all. Y'all know, the ones with the canopies you see at the shore.

I call up it depends on what kind of bicycle yous have. If you have one with an "aggressive" stance (e.g. road bike), then I could see how that could be, simply if you have one with a more relaxed stance, information technology'south actually very easy to finish standing or even go off the bike. I did it at red lights all the time.
